Maki San Food Review

Maki-San

by Claudia Wong

Jumping aboard this Japanese food craze, local Japanese-inspired joint, Maki-San stands out from the rest with its unorthodox and unusual concept of customizing one's own sushi and salads. Opened in September 2012 by two ex-advertising professionals, Joseph Koh and Omar Marks, the brightly-lit shop oozes out a vibrant ambiance with its cheery pop-art decor

Having the privilege and luxury of picking one's own certain ingredients - you can now combine all our favourite ingredients into a tasty maki roll or a yummy salad bowl. You simply have to grab an order chit at the counter and tick your ingredients to your heart's content, depending on the size of 'Little San' ($6.90) or 'Mega San' ($9.90) for your sushi & 'Little San' ($7.90), 'Big San' ($9.90) or 'Mega San' ($11.90) for your salad.

Having no sponsors of such it is a challenge to undergo a task of having to make do a food review for a school project magazine, having to bacon and pay for the different dishes on my own left me with certain sacrifices although all of these was worth doing as the food was no doubt yummy and amazing. The taste of richness from the different ingredients stained thy tongue and begets for more. I enjoyed picking my choice of mix and match ingredients for my sushi, the enjoyment and the quirky concept right before having to taste the combination of your outcome, expecting your favourites to taste well together, and then exceeding your own expectations while having to eat them. Furthermore, the packages they were in made the presentation of the food look really good. I had a whole lot of fun having to snap pictures in the shop. On a side note, I had a lot of fun tasting and snapping pictures of food, and I never thought that executing a food review could be so fulfilling - for the senses and my tummy too!

And so... Let the pictures do the talking:
